Motorola unwaveringly makes use of the Linux system in its product. Not long ago it introduced another mobile phone with Linux on board – the E859 model
Motorola's new phone is a mid-level device – previously Linux was used
only in the most expensive phones manufactured by the company.
The tri-band E859 model takes advantage of the capabilities of Linux
mainly in the process of handling low-level functions, such as power
management or running the most basic applications. A large part of the
applications available to users remain based on Java technology – among
other features, the E895 is equipped with an MP3 player, a digital
camera with a 1.3 megapixel matrix and support for TransFlash memory
cards with up to 512 MB of capacity. Moreover, the telephone possesses
15 MB of integrated memory and a Bluetooth module. The device will most
likely not be introduced in Europe until next year.
Motorola has been selling mobile phones running Linux for two years.
According to representatives from the company, by 2006/2007 Linux should
have found its way into phones in the budget range of Motorola's product
catalogue.
