Interview with Vladimir Sokolov
Vladimir Sokolov, currently President and CEO of EMS Software Development, LLC, since 1999 is the head of Research & Development center of EMS, placed in Russia. Mr. Sokolov is a Chairman of EMS's Board of Directors and significant stockholder of EMS Company founded by him in 1993. Vladimir is 36 years old. He is married and has a son and a daughter.
Ewa Dudzic: How did your company originate? What was your first market product and who provided the initial idea for it? Vladimir Sokolov: In 1999 based on EMS corporate software development department there was created a branch company of EMS Software Development which concentrated on producing database administration tools and utility applications for data management. Our corporative software development department initially was specializing in the development of network applications, corporate databases and business automation tools built in client-server architecture. Heavily using InterBase server for their projects, our developers continually suffered from lack of effective administration tools for this server. Thus, there appeared an idea of developing a convenient tool that could be useful for database administrators and developers. So, the first product released by our company was a product for administering InterBase SQL server named "EMS QuickDesk " that was later on renamed to IB Manager (full product name - InterBase/FireBird Manager).
